Songs from Powertool Cheerleaders!

Powertool Cheerleaders vs the Boyband of the Screeching Dead

It’s always a juggle to work out how much of a movie to give away in advance. Do you stick all the best bits into the trailer to entice people to watch something that they will then, by definition, already have seen all the best bits of? In the case of a musical (like ours), do you drop all the songs onto social media so people can see them out-of-context and then get that “Oh, so THAT’S what that line meant” moment when they actually watch the movie?

We’ve been trying to walk the line between dropping enough content to give people a flavour of the movie and giving away so much that there seems little point watching it. Indie movies like ours have to really fight to get noticed in the entertainment ecosystem on the 21st century; when I started out in this business, making movies was the hard part and then getting them seen was relatively easy. That dynamic has, of course, flipped. There are near-infinite entertainment options out there, and any film that is going to bask in the luxurious attention of your eyeballs for 90 minutes very much needs to prove why it deserves to do so.

With that in mind, here’s one of my favourite tracks from Powertool Cheerleaders vs the Boyband of the Screeching Dead. It’s called ‘I’m Just A Guy (Dying on the Floor)’ and features the incredible Al Ronald ably assisted by the Boyband of the Screeching Dead (James Hamer-Morton, Justin Chinyere and Mark Stewart) with a cheeky little guest appearance by Annabella Rich. Enjoy.

Was that enough to whet your appetite? If so, head over to our LINKTREE and watch the full movie on the platform of your choice.

But, nooooo, you want another one, you say? Ok, to check out the delights of ‘Stupid Doomed Love Story’ being belted out by Charlie Bond and James Hamer-Morton you’re gonna need to click below, which will take you over to our Facebook page so you can drop us a ‘like’ while you’re over there. It’s got singing, dancing and a nice retro vibe. And it’s got NO SWEARING (as far as I can remember, he says, frantically running through the lyrics in his head) so you can play it in the office or to soothe a baby to sleep. So go do that now by making with the clicky-click on Charlie’s image below…

So, I imagine that one has done it for you. I imagine that you’re heading for the streaming platforms as fast as humanly possible. Scrolling back through this post, desperately looking for the LINKTREE WITH THE STREAMING LINKS ON IT (don’t worry, I just posted it again so you can just click the previous sentence).

But, what if you just need one more thing to tip you over the edge? Just one more song to make you commit? An encore, as it were? An addition to the awesomeness you’ve already checked out?

Well, the next song presented a big of a challenge. It’s my favourite song in the movie, but the final version in the flick comes so late on that the footage is absolutely RIFE with spoilers. What to do? What to do?

Well, early on in the crowdfunding process for the movie, we put together an edit of the song to give backers a flavour of how the flick would look and sound. So, this version is SPOILER-FREE. It’s put together from footage from the original Kickstarter promo shoot and features the incredible vocals of our music God, Phil Sheldon, rather than the cast recording from the movie. Phil put this version together entirely himself, based on the tiny seed of an awful acoustic demo I’d created.

So here’s ‘Intros to Death Scenes’ in an early form. We hope you dig it.

So, there are three songs from the movie.

Powertool Cheerleaders vs the Boyband of the Screeching Dead took the longest of any movie project I’ve worked on in my life. The project survived through COVID and countless, endless disruptions. We’re really proud of it and hope you enjoy it.

One last plug of the old LINKTREE for streaming links, then.

Take care, lovelies, and don’t forget to spread the word if you choose to bless us with your eyeballs x
