The script for Chainsaw Fairytale has a long and strange history.
I’d been messing around with the vague concept (Fairytale Genre vs Horror Genre) for quite a while but never got all that far with it. A page or two of development work and script ideas here and there, not much else. Then I had a period of intense sleep deprivation lasting several months (Baby doesn’t sleep? Parents don’t sleep!). Someone asked me shortly afterwards exactly how far I’d got with the Chainsaw Fairytale screenplay and I dug out a three page treatment. It triggered a nagging memory in me, though, convinced that I’d done rather more with it at some point. I looked around on my hard drive and found a 104 page screenplay that I had no recollection of writing. That screenplay was absolutely insane, of course, but it had flashes of something remarkable.
Since then, it’s been reworked from top to bottom. I’ve taken to sometimes referring to it as Fairytale Princesses vs the Horror Genre but I’m not sure what title we’ll end up with. We’ve been getting into some heavy development with the project, particularly in terms of virtual filmmaking techniques to bring the fairytale landscape to life.
We’re likely to be shooting in 2024 and I’ll have more details for you whenever they’re set. Hope you’re all rocking. I’ll try and write this blog more often now that I’m weaning myself off the horrorshow that Twitter has become.
Peace and love, Pat
